Myanmar, and a jaunt to Thailand

In September-October 2012, we went to Myanmar, which was an exceptional place to see. Because of political unrest in part of the country, we couldn't see certain places so to fill out our time there, we added a side trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. Here are the photos from that wonderful trip:

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND:

June 9-17, 2011: MEXICO!

We went to Oaxaca for a nice long week, with a side trip down to the coast, to Mazunte. Here are all the photos from the trip in one slideshow, and a couple of videos below that (and here's the blog for the trip):

This was the marimba band we heard the first night in the restaurant. The sound on my phone isn't that great, because this was a much richer sound, but it was kind of jalopy-ish:

And this was the wonderful mariachi band at our hotel. They were standing underneath the overhang, so all you can see is the main singer, but there were trumpet players (you'll hear them!) and guitars and an accordion:

 

Despite the very end of the trip for me with a bit of intestinal distress, this was a wonderful, fabulous, refreshing and restorative trip. We had a great time together, ate some very good food, enjoyed the sun and the beautiful people of Oaxaca and Mazunte, and want to go back next year. Viva Mexico, seriously y'all.

VIETNAM & MALAYSIA

We were so very lucky to get to return to Vietnam a second time. It was a magical, wonderful trip -- Hanoi and Sapa, the Mekong Delta and HCMC. TURKEY

We left town on our 5th anniversary for TURKEY! We only stayed one week, but we visited Istanbul, Antalya, and Cirali, which is near Olympos. Whee!!! It was a great trip, beautiful scenery, some excellent food, and a wonderful time together.You can read our blog for the whole story, or just watch the slideshow:

LAOS AND CAMBODIA

One of our very best trips, by far. Back to the Other Side.

CROATIA

Back from Croatia - it was a mostly great trip, to a surprising and beautiful country. We saw mountains and ocean, ancient cities and Roman ruins. We ate fresh seafood and picked figs from the trees. Ferries to islands, hours in sidewalk cafes. A swim in the Adriatic and sunning on the rocks. Red tiled roofs, palm trees, figs and olives and honey.

HONDURAS

We had a perfectly wonderful vacation in Honduras. We snorkeled a lot and saw some gorgeous fish, we lounged in the sun, we ate some great food, we saw some beautiful scenery, and found the Honduricans (as Marc calls them) to be warm and friendly people. We'd go back in a heartbeat - in fact, we plan to go back next year if possible. Roatan is a beautiful island in the Caribbean, which the local people consider to be blessed since it is never hit by a hurricane with any severity.

YUCATAN

Eight days in the Yucatan - Placer, to be precise - in early April. White sand, water a dozen shades of blue, snorkeling, and relaxing. Just what any doctor would order.

PERU

Perhaps the best trip we've taken together yet, we went to southern Peru: Lima, Arequipa, Colca Valley, Puno/Lake Titicaca, Cusco, and Machu Picchu. It was thoroughly amazing.
